MIXED-USE BUILDINGS

Modern planning through the 20th century transformed our villages and cities from multifunction, vivid and dynamic places into structured patchworks of separated zones. At the core of this transformation were valid health and safety concerns, but we ultimately overshot these ambition creating unexpected new risks and hazards such as traffic jams, segregation, isolation, sprawl and the proliferation generic urbanism and architecture.

While some separation remains legitimate technological advancement and a general transformation of the economy makes our extant city perform imperfectly in economic, social, and environmental terms. Civic Hybrids are project that seek to create recombination of functions that form new economic synergies and stimulate interaction and collaboration in an increasingly polarized society.
