One of the most relevant challenges of the 21^st century is to optimize an re-use the existing built environment instead of further increasing our already excessive footprint on earth. Besides a technical and economic challenge re-use also allows provides chances to create cultural continuity and specific environments that craft a relationship between our past and future.

This paradigm doesn’t look at the existing built environment as frozen heritage that artificially favors an ostensibly arbitrary point in time. Instead our design solutions transform and extend to create connections between the ambition of our ancestors, the reality of today, and our hopes for the future. This can mean looking at the built environment as an ensemble but also a building components ready for re-use.
